About Asthma
AsthmaPeople with asthma have sensitive airways in their lungs. When exposed to certain 'triggers' their airways narrow, making it hard for them to breathe. The causes of asthma are not fully understood, but there is often a family history of asthma, eczema or hayfever. There is also evidence that exposure to certain things, for example cigarette smoke during pregnancy and early childhood, increases the risk of developing asthma. Asthma is more prevalent in developed countries. Asthma can occur for the first time at any age and can change over time.

What Can I Do About Asthma?
Asthma cannot be cured, but it can be managed. Most people with asthma can carry out their daily activities without asthma symptoms. Good asthma management allows you to lead an active, healthy lifestyle.
Asthma and food
Asthma is a condition that involves inflammation and increased mucous secretions in the lungs. There are foods in the diet that may impact on this by further compounding this inflammatory and mucous forming effect. These foods include Wheat, Dairy and Animal meats. Not only are they inflammatory and mucous forming, wheat and diary are often implicated in allergy responses in the body. People are not necessarily 'allergic' to these foods, they are often intolerant, and therefore these foods have a negative impact on the bodies homeostasis. There is often a marked improvement in asthma sufferers when wheat and dairy foods are reduced or eliminated from the diet.
