Common Allergies
What Is an Allergic Reaction?
Allergies are the result of a hypersensitive immune system. The allergic immune system misidentifies an otherwise innocuous substance as harmful, and then attacks the substance with a ferocity far greater than required. These allegies may be the result of food or atmospheric contaminants such as pollen or dust and more likely these days an additional burden of chemical sensitivity. Some people are highly allergic to bee stings for example.
Treating Allergies
Many allergens, once identified, can simply be avoided. If you know you're allergic to certain foods, you don't eat them! Some commons ones are milk, eggs, tomatoes, nuts and so on. Its possible to be allergic to very specific foods or entire food groups.
Pet allergies can be handled sometimes by keeping the pet outside. Cat and Dog fur inside your house is a sure way to increase the number of allergic reactions you are likely to encounter.
Unfortunately, many allergens, like pollen, mold and dust are very difficult, if not impossible, to avoid. These can often be managed by using medications such as antihistamines and decongestants.

What Can I Do About Common Allergies?
A healthy, balanced diet is the first key to defending your body against allergic reactions. A healthy body is more resistant to allergic reactions, while stress and bad diet, lack of sleep and other conditions can predispose your body to allergic reactions.
Vitamin C and Vitamin E can help protect your body. Vitamin C will boost your immune system and is found in citrus foods such as oranges, grapefruit, orange juice, grapefruit juice, green peppers and many beverages. Vitamin C acts similar to an antihistamine. Vitamin E is found in plant oils and green, leafy vegetables. With allergies in mind, the best diet to follow is one with plenty of carbohydrates and fresh fruits and vegetables.
Other recommendations
If you are having an allegic attack that involves sneezing, don't take a shower that is overly hot, this will make it worse! Use tissues that are impregnated with aloe vera and don't wipe to viciously. Should you have an acute reaction and your breathing or swallowing becomes difficult you should seek medical assistance urgently.
