About Kidney Disease

Are You At Risk For Kidney Disease?

  •  Do you have diabetes?
  •  Do you have high blood pressure?
  •  Did your mother, father, sister, or brother ever have kidney disease or failure?
  •  Has a doctor ever told you that you had protein in your urine?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, you are at risk for kidney disease. Early kidney disease is a silent problem, like high blood pressure. Kidney disease can become kidney failure with little or no warning, and is usually discovered right before the kidneys fail.

    What Causes Kidney Disease?

The two leading causes of kidney failure, also called end stage kidney disease or ESRD, are diabetes and high blood pressure. When these two diseases are controlled by treatment, the associated kidney disease can often be prevented or slowed down. The kidneys can also be damaged by overuse of some over-the-counter pain killers and by taking illegal drugs such as heroin.

What Can I Do About Kidney Disease?

Careful control of blood sugar in diabetics helps to prevent such complications as kidney disease, coronary heart disease and stroke. A special diet can help to control the buildup of waste products and fluid in your blood and to decrease the workload of your kidneys. This diet may also help to slow down the loss of kidney function. The main goal of the diet is to keep you healthy. You may need to reduce the amount of protein you eat to avoid buildup of urea in your body. Protein is found in two types of foods:

  •  in large amounts in foods from animal sources such as poultry, meat, seafood, eggs, milk, cheese and other dairy products.
  •  in smaller amounts in foods from plant sources such as breads, cereals, other starches and grains, and vegetables and fruits. While you may need to limit the amount of protein you eat, it is important that you eat the right amount of protein. This helps to keep your body healthy. An important note - you should avoid any water that has been fluorodated - silico-fluorides are poison to the body and especially when there are any kidney problems.

Vitamins and minerals come from a variety of foods you eat each day. If your diet is limited, you may need to take special vitamins or minerals.

To be most effective, nutritional supplements work better in combination. It may be more beneficial to take a variety of Herbs or Nutrients for more rapid and complete healing...

Your kidneys are essential to life and maintaining good health. Your kidneys filter the blood of wastes and metabolic by-products and protect you from toxins. Your liver breaks down toxic substances into less toxic substances that are then excreted by your kidneys and out of your body as urine. If these toxins were to build-up in the system, the organs would become overburdened and health problems may arise.
