Pain Relief
About Pain Relief
Acute pain is the body's alarm system. It signals that something is wrong. It signals that you are in danger of injury or that the injured part needs to be protected and/or rested. Chronic pain generally serves no useful purpose and may cause disability and distress to sufferers and their families. Chronic pain is more common in women and in the elderly. |

What Can I Do To Relieve Pain?
NSAIDs (Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs)work by blocking the production of prostaglandins - hormone-like substances that trigger pain signals to the brain and bring on inflammation (redness, warmth and swelling). Topical NSAIDs generally contain the same active ingredients as oral versions, but in lower amounts. There’s evidence that topical NSAIDs are good at reducing some pains, but whether they’re better than other (possibly cheaper) treatments, such as paracetamol tablets or counter-irritants, isn’t known.
Additional information
Sitting for long periods of time stresses your body, especially the back and neck. The longer you sit, the worse it gets. Get up at least once every hour to walk or stretch.
MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) is a food. It is an organic form of sulfer, which is found primarily in fruits, vegetables, meat, milk and seafood. It can offer a natural way to reduce pain without serious side effects, including reducing or eliminating muscle soreness and cramps. People with arthritis report substantial and long-lasting relief with MSM supplements. Taken along with glucosamine, MSM can offer pain relief and help repair worn or damaged cartilage in joints with healthy, flexible new cells.
Calcium is recommended for arthritis, more as a preventive than as a painkiller.
Magnesium, found in soybeans, whole grains, nuts, seeds, vegetables and fish, has long been valued in treating migraines because it acts as a muscle relaxant. It is considered one of the most promising nutrients in headache research.
Glucosamine sulfate has shown effectiveness in reducing arthritis pain, which may be due to its ability to repair joints. Used together, glucosamine and chondroiten can reduce joint pain and may help build new cartilage. There are some rub-on pain-relief products that contain painkillers, while others rely on irritating the skin to create a hot or cold sensation, distracting you from the pain.
To be most effective, nutritional supplements work better in combination. It may be more beneficial to take a variety of Herbs or Nutrients for more rapid and complete healing...
