Quick Cleanse Recipes
Spicy Brown Basmati Rice
Ingredients:
2 tbs/ 30mls cold pressed sunflower oil
½ tsp/2.5gram yellow mustard seeds
¼ tsp/1.25 gram black onion seeds
½ tsp/2.5 gram garam masala
6 cloves garlic, finely crushed
6oo grams brown basmatic rice, washed & drained
1.5 litres water
¼ tsp salt-free vegie seasoning
100 gram shelled pistachio nuts
fresh coriander leaves, to garnish
Method:
- Heat oil, add mustard and black onion seeds, fry briefly.
- Add garam masala followed by garlic.
- Stir in the rice for a couple of minutes, then add water & seasoning.
- Bring to the boil, stir then reduce heat slightly, cook for 30 minutes or until all the liquid has evaporated. Leave it to sit covered for 5 minutes.
- While the rice is cooking, dry roast the pistachios in a heavy bottomed frying pan, on a medium heat, stir frequently to avoid burning.
- Mix most of them into the cooked rice, leaving the remaining to garnish the top of the rice.
- Add the final garnish of the fresh coriander leaves, then serve.
