Also known as Sea Moss. Irish Moss makes a great addition to smoothies and broths as a cleansing and nourishing supplement. It also acts as a gelling agent so can be used as a gelatin substitute. Irish Moss (chondrus crispus) is also a plentiful source of Fibre, Vitamin K, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Zinc and many other nutrients (this can vary depending on seasonality).
Simmer in water to make a broth, or rehydrate and leave to form a gel which will keep for weeks in the fridge. (The gel can be applied directly to skin to moisturize or soothe as an ingredient in home-made cosmetics.)
